It’s Never Too Late to Say Sorry: Bully Apologizes to Victim 20 Years After

Sometimes, one word can change the lives of people.

Bullying is very prevalent in schools today. There are victims who could no longer take the abuse that they decide to take their own lives instead. Those who “survive” bullying carry their scars and wounds until they grow up. Many bullied children develop insecurities and often grow up with emotional and psychological problems that last. But just one word can heal all these: sorry.

Chad Michael Morrisette was severely bullied in his junior high school in a small town in Alaska. He was often called names, and his life was even threatened more than a couple of times. His scrawny stature was no match for 6-7 large-bodied bullies that would often wait for him in the hallway. One of them was Louie Amundson.

“The entire football team bullied me,” Morrisette told Yahoo. “It wasn’t one guy, it was six or seven guys who would follow me in the hallways, harassing me, insulting me, threatening my life.”

While Morrisette was forced to run away from home because of his experience, Louie Amundson, on the other hand, carried the guilt for 20 years. It was until his daughter asked him if he ever bullied anyone that he remembered his wrongdoings as a teen, and he decided to set an example for his daughter.

“They were working on a skit about bullying, so she was asking several different questions about why kids bully, what to do if you’re bullied—then she asked if I was ever bullied, and I said yes,” Amundson wrote.

“She then asked if I had ever bullied anyone else, and I had to think about it for a minute and that’s the first time I had thought about it in 20-plus years, so I answered honestly and said yes.”

“I took the easy route, picking on the kid that everyone else was picking on,” he told Inside Edition.

Amundson first reached out to Morrisette through Facebook with a simple message.

“I want to apologize. If we lived in the same state I would apologize to your face. I don’t even know if you remember, but I do and I am sorry,” he wrote.

Finally, after 20 years, the bully and the victim finally meet for a formal apology from Amundson. Watch their heartwarming transition from a bully and a victim, to just being friends.
