While a dowry and a bride price are just part of a lifetime of love, there are families who cannot afford to pay such requirements, especially when the opposite family asks for too much. However, this bride gave more than what her groom’s family expected. The 38-year-old woman reportedly gave her 23-year-old groom’s family a whopping 5 million yuan in dowry.

The groom’s family opposed the marriage at first but later gave in after the bride gave them 660,000 yuan (USD 104,379), some real estate assets and a Ferrari from the bride, making it an insanely expensive dowry worth 5 million yuan (USD 790,750) in total.


The wedding in China’s Hainan province made headlines in local newspapers and online news sites after their video and pictures went viral. In the video, the bride is seen wearing a classic white wedding dress complete with heavy gold jewelry as accessories while the young groom is wearing a smart tuxedo.

According to reports, the 38-year-old divorcee got pregnant, leaving the groom’s family no choice but to let them wed. Despite rumors that the groom’s family practically “sold” their son, many believe that the groom was genuinely happy as seen in the photos.  However, a netizen who claims to personally know the groom said that the bride was actually ‘sugar mama’ of the groom. They were in a casual relationship before deciding to get married after the bride pregnant.
